In response to the devastating events in Texas and Florida, we are partnering with http://pastorserve.org and http://rca.org to help provide relief.
RCA Global Mission is monitoring the situation and is in contact with partners and churches in the area to determine the best ways that to help the people most impacted by storm.
An initial disbursement of $20,000 is designated for immediate needs. “We have already been able to provide an initial financial gift to Christ the Redeemer Community Church, an RCA church plant in Houston, to help provide food and shelter for those in urgent need in their neighborhood,” Engelsman says. “We're also helping Carismah Church in Katy, Texas, another church plant, to provide food, water, and shelter to displaced families nearby.”
To assess and address long-term rebuilding needs, RCA Global Mission will work with World Renew Disaster Response Services.
This past week, the job description of every pastor in South Texas was immediately revised. Pastors became first responders, grief counselors, food and clothing distribution hub coordinators, misson team hosts, and the list goes one. For almost 20 years, PastorServe has cared for the pastors and ministry leaders touched by disasters.
PastorServe is coming to Houston to serve alongside pastors and existing ministry networks. They will identify need, offer care, provide financial and emotional support, counseling and encouragement - lifting the spirits of pastors in the midst of chaos and utter discouragement. Ultimately PastorServe will connect under-resourced churches to more resourced ministries outside of the impacted region, leading to relationships, mission trip opportunities and much more.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Pray for people who were in the direct path of the storms as well as those who are still in the midst of the flooding and continued rain. Pray for people who are helpless and whose lives seem out of control at the moment. Pray for safety for people who are trapped, and for the people who are working tirelessly to get them to safety.
Donate to either of these ministries or choose another organization you're more familiar with serving in the area.
