Our Story
Springs Community Church (SCC) was started in 1985 by Pastors Steve Brooks and Ron Gray. Following the tragic deaths of both their wives in a 1979 car accident, they received grief counseling together. After many conversations, Brooks and Gray started to see themselves - one extroverted dynamo and one practical administrator - not as opposites, but as two halves of an equation. Ironically, the accident that had wrecked their lives now helped them achieve their goal of starting a new church. SCC met in a shopping center until 1990, when we relocated to our present six-acre facility. Since then we’ve enlarged our building several times and added parking and classrooms.
In 2007, Pastor Steve was diagnosed with ALS. Realizing that he could not physically continue to lead SCC into the future, a search team was formed to seek his replacement. From phone conversations and personal interviews with numerous qualified candidates, Pastor Eric Carpenter was selected to be the next SCC lead pastor.
Pastor Steve celebrated his retirement from active ministry on March 9, 2008, with his son Ben Brooks bringing the message. An era in the life of SCC closed when Pastor Steve passed away two days later.
